TAKE THE WHEEL

When one imagines someone valiantly fighting against the Geth for Eden Prime, several images enter their mind. Chances are, none of them are a disheveled, hung over young man, wearing only a pair of pants, barefoot, and arguing on their Omni-Tool. Well, that description would just so happen to fit one Alexander Hawke. Originally, he had come to Eden Prime for some vacation time. Working behind the scenes was a bit taxing on the mental state and all that, and he got some shore leave for Eden Prime. So he decided to head there and relax. For the most part, it had been pretty great. Saunas, bars, parties, the works. He had even managed to destroy a new marriage, on its honeymoon no less! When he collapsed in his rented bed early in the morning, he never expected to wake up to this.

Geth everywhere. And what was worse, someone from the Citadel was harassing him for money. He tiptoed out in the open around the bodies of the dead. Some Geth, mostly human bodies littered the area. His Brawler pistol in his right hand, his Omni-Tool active on his left. He really needed to find something to drink. He really needed to kill this hangover before all the gunfire made it worse. The place was roaring with war, and his head was pounding with fury. And the person on the other end wasn't helping. "Yeah, no. I know it's noisy." Alex spoke into the tool. Someone obviously responded, because he spoke again. "It's a war movie on First Contact."

Alex rolled his eyes briefly, gently shaking his head. "No, I'm not turning it down." Not that he could, anyway, for obvious reasons. "Because it's realistic! You ever fought a battle before? It's loud." But it'd probably be bad if he shouted about a bunch of robots attacking humans. Not to mention no one would buy it. Though his temper flared when the chatter became more hostile, glaring at his tool. "No shit I'm 'dicking around.' I'm on Eden Prime. Humanity's... uh, Eden." Really, he could've done better.

Finally, he had enough. "Look, we'll talk about it when I finish this movie." And he promptly hung up. "... Not that I'll ever get to see it." He said when he tore his gaze away. Great. He was surrounded. Geth were closing in, Pulse Rifles all aimed on him. Yay. Wonderful. Alex sighed and aimed his Brawler at one of the Geth. This was going to get ugly real fast.

TAKE THE WHEEL

And it was pretty clear that no one was going to be helping him any time soon. Five Geth, all trained right on him. It was as if he could hear the one word cry of "EXTERRRRMINATE!" Armed with a pistol, hung over, and half naked, Alex admitted to himself that he could probably be in a much better position than what he was right now. "So hey, I know I'm no savior of mankind, and that the machines have always had a grudge but uh." Skynet was rising, and last he checked, his name was not John Connor. The best thing to do was reason. "Let bygones be bygones, right?" Not that he could reason with the mechanical menace.

His reflexes however, did save him, as he jumped back and dove behind some small cover. A metal crate or something, he wasn't sure. The Geth mumbled some garble he didn't understand and then they opened fire on him. Shots slammed into the crate and all around him. "Or not, I guess. Whatever." He remarked. This was his time. The resistance had begun! Mankind would rise against the risen machines and take back their land!

He took a good long look at the shots whizzing past him. Using it to mark their trajectory. After that, he raised his Brawler Pistol over the crates, aimed opposite the trajectory of one rifle, and started firing. Four shots, and they seemed to hit their mark. He could hear one of the Geth collapsing as the firing continued on. Hey, maybe he wasn't so bad at this thing after all. That being said, he really had to find something to drink. This hangover wouldn't go away, all this chaos would just make it worse. Top priority, find some drinks.

Preferrably whiskey or brandy.

Ah, the glory of war: the noise of it pressing in around her, the metallic stench of blood on the air. It was a little different than she was used to, maybe, with bright red blood instead of the more familiar blue, but the thing about battle was that you never really forgot. No, it stayed with her always, thrumming through her veins. At least this had been just a human colony, and not some other race. It kind of figured, that they'd have taken a planet so important to her plans. Served them right.

Not that it made her feel much better, though. Thank the Spirits she hadn't been required in the initial assault. She'd given her forces a bit of a head start, that she might slip in after the brunt of the fighting and gather the beacon quickly. She didn't want to be in this forsaken place any longer than necessary, nor risk anyone recognizing her. It would have been more than a little obvious if a turian Spectre showed up on the human Eden and started shooting up the place.

And it had all been going to plan, more or less, until a certain other turian had showed up. It had been... less than fortunate. Had he not recognized her, maybe he'd have had a chance, but the second he called out her name, well. No one could know of her involvement, not yet. It was such a shame. They'd known each other; not well, but they'd been on enough missions for Seneca to know that Nihlus Kryik was a good turian. She just didn't have room for good turians in her plans.

So she'd given a quick prayer that the Spirits might guide him, and gunned him down where he stood. Poor thing. She felt bad, she really did, but if there was anyone in the world who didn't understand cutting their losses it was him. She'd known she'd have to do this alone from the very beginning, and that hadn't changed.

Something else had, however. She'd started receiving reports that the fighting had unearthed some sort of stasis pod, and though she ought to have been heading straight for the beacon, well, this was on the way. She had no idea what she was in for but it was probably important, leaving her with little choice. Her mandibles were pulled tight to her face in disgust as she picked her way across the bodies, keeping an eye out for any movement. Good thing she was, too, as soon she came across the scene of another fight.

There was a human still kicking, huh? She should probably just put him down, but there were five- wait, no, four now- geth going after him, and was it really worth her time? Eh. Though he'd survived so far he hardly looked prepared to take on so many enemies, and thus she discounted him as any sort of threat. Instead she leveled her pistol at him and called in a loud, clear voice. "Human. Have you seen a stasis pod in the area?" She needed to move quickly, and there wasn't really any harm in asking him. He'd be dead soon enough. "It is of vital importance." Perhaps, if he proved useful, she'd even spare his pathetic life.

One. Two. Three. Four. Alex counted the shots from his pistol as he fired over the crate and at one of the Geth. Down it went, leaving him with just only three. This wouldn't be too bad. Their rifles didn't seem all that up to snuff either. Considering his durability, he might not even have to worry about getting shot to begin with. He doubted those rifles could really do much to actually hurt him, or even slow him down. Thank god for that. He imagined with his armor he could've probably just waltzed into it and come out with a ton of dead Geth. But no, right now, even with his crazy durability, he had to be careful.

And then things had gotten even weirder. So suddenly some Turian lady shows up and now she's aiming a pistol at him and asking about a pod. In all honesty, she looked pretty familiar to him. He might have been able to recognize her outright if there wasn't absolute chaos going on right now. Secena was pretty damn famous. Still, the fact she was aiming at him was actually pretty irritating. "Now? I'm pretty sure we have bigger things to deal with right now." A brief scan of the shot trajectory from the Geth gave him another line of shot. Without even taking his eyes off the Turian, he just raised his Brawler back over the crate and fired another four shots. "Like the fact that the machines are casting off their fleshy overlords and rebelling."

Okay, so maybe the Geth were never really subordinates of flesh to begin with, but still. The situation was similar. The machines had risen up against the organics. "Look, can you wait a minute? Or shoot them? I mean, that'd be pretty great, yeah." Not that it'd matter. Given a few more seconds he'd probably be able to put the last two down, and then they could talk about this pod bullshit. Not that he knew anything anyway.

He hardly seemed to notice her, even had the audacity to be irritated, like she was the pest instead of his kind. It would have been almost funny, if it wasn't so incredibly irritating. Did he not notice the gun pointed at his head? Maybe not, considering he took out two more geth even as they spoke. Huh. Perhaps she'd miscalculated just how doomed he was. Who knew she'd find a halfway capable human here? There was a chance he knew the area and could be of some use, it might be worth keeping him around. 

She blinked a few times at his words- she didn't quite understand that reference, it must be a human thing, though she assumed it must be a joke of some sort. Great, she'd gotten a back-talking one, just her luck. She tried not to be too impressed at his sharpshooting, as arrogance like that would get a man killed, but it was a nice show all the same. Yes, she may have underestimated him. Looked like his survival wasn't in question any longer, in any case. She might as well see how it played out, see if she could get her information. Hopefully it wouldn't come back to bite her.

"Very well. As you were." She lowered her weapon slightly and quirked a brow plate at him in a Turian smirk. "I can wait."  It was probably at least a bit suspicious that the geth weren't firing at her but, well, he was the hostile. Just a quirk of programming? Something like that. She wasn't about to shoot down her own soldiers, in any case, so she'd just stand here and watch as he took care of them. Maybe she'd get lucky and he'd be wounded, all the better to take him down later. "I'm sure a wonderful warrior such as yourself doesn't need any help, hmm?" Okay, maybe she shouldn't sound so amused, but it was a funny sight. She'd seen enough hung-over soldiers in her life to take some small pleasure in their misery.

"Hey! For your information! I am awesome at this fighting thing!"

Another four shots and another Geth was down. Alexander scowled at the Turian woman for just refusing to help him. What kind of person wouldn't help fight against the machines? But if she was so content to let him do the job, then whatever. He would do it. And try not to get all pissed off that someone was helping the machines, even if it was indirectly. So, never losing his scowl, he aimed his pistol over the crate and fired another four shots. For the moment, the Geth threat had been neutralized. But it was only a matter of time before more would show up. But at least he could talk to this lady who had decided to just let him suffer. The truth is in the heat of it all he just never noticed them not shooting her.

And right now he really needed to kill this hangover. "Right, now you were talking about a pod?" He was just wanting to make sure he heard everything right. That and he needed a few moments of not being shot at. Rising to his feet, he spent a few moments scouring the small bit of space around him before he picked up a bottle. Taking a good look at it, he noticed the cap was still on. Taking a moment to read the back, he noted that there was alcohol in it. A bottle of beer, but whatever, he'd take it. It'd help soothe this headache that was coming on. Man did hangovers suck.

With his cure in hand, he walked over to stand in front of the Turian that had refused to help him, Brawler pistol in his right hand, beer bottle in the other. "I just want to make sure. I've got a killer headache that this whole evil robot thing isn't really helping. So sometimes I might hear something wrong." He took another look at the bottle. It wasn't cobra whiskey, but it'd do for now.

"Sure you are, sweetheart, I believe you." Her subharmonics thrummed with amusement and she met his glare steadily, though her body language remained carefully neutral, still on guard for sudden movements. He clearly knew what he was doing, might even pose a threat, especially now that there didn't seem to be any more geth in the immediate area. Should she recognize him? The face might look familiar, maybe, but most humans looked the same to her. She'd think on it, maybe it would come to her later. He was a decent soldier, in any case, he deserved a proper burial when the time came. She'd keep it in mind.

So maybe she ought to be a little more concerned by him, but at the moment there was no need for him to consider her a threat, and he really could be useful. Besides, it was hard to take him seriously when he was clearly not in the best state. Seneca was content to simply watch as the human salvaged a bottle of alcohol from the ground. Her head cocked slightly to the side- he really intended to consume that? Wow, it was a wonder that humans had managed to make it as far as they had. Was he that good, or was he just plain stupid? Promised to make things interesting, in any case.

"I... see." She gave the bottle a pointed look, trying not to look too incredulous. She had a feeling she missed the mark somewhat. "Yes, I am in fact in search of a stasis pod. Presumably where the fighting was thickest. I don't suppose you could be of any use?" She was starting to doubt it, honestly, but it was worth a shot. If not, well, she might as well take him with her. She was starting to think she didn't want to take her chances fighting him one-on-one. "...is it a common human custom to cure alcohol with more alcohol?" Okay, she should focus, but she couldn't stop staring. The sight was ridiculous. How could a man so competent be so incredibly stupid?

As Alexander opened the bottle and placed it to his lips, he immediately cut Seneca off. Taking his finger off the trigger to hold it up, nonverbally telling her to let him finish his drink. Okay, no problem. Except there was the little issue in that his drink was taking a long time. In fact, he was pretty much draining the bottle. After about a minute or so, the whole thing was empty. Alexander took a look inside to see if there was anything left. Seeing that there wasn't, he smashed it on the ground. Yeah, there was something seriously wrong with this guy. Another pause, though this much briefer, ensued, before he answered. "... I mean, temporarily, yeah."

God he could already feel a little better. "Long term I have to wait it out." And while it would come back to bite him later, that would be later, when the fighting was over and he could complain somewhere else. Plus he still had to pay her back for not doing anything to help him. At all. Normally he'd have been willing to help but she really killed that option when she just stood there. What a terrible person. "Anyway, don't know shit about a stasis pod and..." He paused for a moment as he turned to look at her. The gears were starting to turn.

"Holy shit you're Seneca Sicarius." Oh yes, Seneca was famous, and he'd heard of her. She was the Council's darling, to hear it from the Alliance. Their most favored and beloved Spectre. "Why are you on Eden Prime?" He asked, more out of shock than anything. She had already told him, to his face, that she was here for the pod. But really, the fact that a Turian Spectre was on Eden Prime was just something that really didn't happen every day.
